Responsibility

Key targets

  • Divert at least 70% of in-store waste nationally; 75% from our distribution centres and 80% from our store support centres
  • Reduce transport fleet fuel consumption by 5% and reduce total energy consumption by 3% per square foot in existing stores
  • Reduce non-recyclable packaging from our control brand products by 50% by year-end 2013 and reduce packaging used on our control brand products by 5% by year-end 2014

Our Priorities

  • Reduce our carbon footprint by targeting electricity and fuel consumption, refrigerant leak reduction and waste reduction.
  • Divert waste from landfill by reducing, reusing and recycling in our stores, distribution centres and store support centres.
  • Expand the PC G.R.E.E.N product line to give customers a growing array of green product options.
  • Support municipal recycling programs such as the blue box and blue bag recycling programs across the country.

PC G.R.E.E.N

As Loblaw’s product developers have proven, many of the products Canadians use every day in their homes can be replaced by more environmentally friendly versions. Our PC G.R.E.E.N line is designed to help customers reduce environmental impacts without compromising performance and, in most cases, without paying more than they would for conventional products. PC G.R.E.E.N products range from household cleaners, detergents and garden supplies, to bathroom tissues and diapers.

In 2010, we introduced 37 new PC G.R.E.E.N products. Products include newborn diapers, plus a range of pet accessories and stationary items made from 100% post consumer recycled plastic/paper such as dog collars, leashes beds, carriers, notebooks, paper, pencil cases, binders, etc.
