Store Designer

Loblaw Properties West Inc. (Westfair Foods Ltd.) is presently looking for self-motivated individuals to join its Calgary based Store Planning Department.

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Preparing store layout drawings for new and renovation projects using AutoCAD 2006.
• Preparing finishes, décor and signage drawings and details.
• Obtaining and incorporating information from operations and merchandising groups.
• Making adjustments and revisions to layouts and associated drawings.
• Maintaining drawing file systems.
• Working with and directing architects and consultant teams to achieve desired results.
• Assisting with plan checking of drawings and details from consultants and suppliers.
• Working with suppliers to incorporate current information on drawings.
• Working with construction department staff to implement and complete projects.

Drafting experience, proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office are essential. Team work and the ability to visualize and follow through on changes to insure consistency and accuracy on all drawings is a must. This position also requires a working knowledge of building codes and a strong understanding of building technology and building systems. Experience in food store and/or retail store design would be an asset. A minimum of 2 to 3 years related experience, specifically with an architectural technology background is required.

Construction Project Manager

Loblaw Properties West Inc. (Westfair Foods Ltd.) has several of the above positions available in its Engineering Department. Westfair Foods Ltd. is the developer of The Real Canadian Superstores and Extra Foods throughout western Canada and is a part of the largest food distribution company in Canada.

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Managing all phases of new construction and renovation projects from the start of construction to store opening.
• Procuring and arranging the installation of store fixtures.
• Preparing budgets, estimates, tendering projects, reviewing extra cost claims, and generally being responsible for the successful completion of assigned projects.
• Working with store operations departments and other Engineering department staff to ensure that the company’s needs are properly reflected in the facilities provided.
• Supervising architects, contractors, structural, mechanical and electrical consultants to achieve desired results.

The ability to work well under pressure is essential. Preference will be given to those with commercial construction and fixturing experience, as well as those with a degree or diploma in building technology or engineering.

This position requires excellent communication, scheduling, coordination, project administration, and multi-tasking skills and also involves considerable travel.
